TL;DR — the broadcom sta linux driver always fails in the first scan request after the interface is brought up, this produces a long delay when connecting to a wireless network.
The brcmsmac is an opensource equivalent for broadcom wl driver. Please provide the router manufacturer, model, and firmware version. Proud of this achievement. July 6th, 8. So my guess is that it is the “brcmsmac” that is automatically loading obviously after removing purging the “wl” driver, and installing the firmware has absolutely nothing to do with the fix.
The bcmwl-kernel-source package should automatically blacklist the open source drivers so that the STA 21.04 is the only one in use.
I got this sorted out. You will also need the bfwcutter package which is usually included on the install media or can be downloaded from the official online repositories.
It is not a hardware problem since when I boot Windows XP which I hate to do on the same computer, it connects fine. Thanks for putting this into a PPA.
