I know there have also been similar problems with Intel drivers on ESX i 3. It is a great concept but needs some polishing. Can I ask what your randomly bradcom problem was? This might help some people who stumble upon this page in their search for answers.

Weird as the other 3 chassis blades are using the default vSphere 5 driver and are working fine. After the reboot, you can verify the driver version using the command.
