Jul 27, Alan D. In the form of a memoir by a latter-day Candide named Hippolyte, The Benefactor leads us on a kind of psychic Grand Bneefactor, in which Hippolyte’s violently imaginative dream life becomes indistinguishable from his surprising experiences in the ‘real world.

If there were no speaking or writing, there would be no truth about anything. The Benefactor is pretty trippy, and that’s nice for a change, and it’s not so trippy as to make the reader feel stupid, which is also nice for a change.
