First performance probably in fully choral version. The contemporary edition of Aylestord attributes it to the transverse flute, but the autograph manuscript is clearly for the recorder. The version is 8a. Probably completed in Aylesforx or Italy. Composed to celebrate the Duke of Cumberland’s defeat of the Jacobite forces at Culloden on 16 April Lawrence, WhitchurchLondon. Revival on 28 November The work’s authenticity is unquestioned, but the sonata is not part of Handel’s Opus 1 as published by Walsh—having been added by Chrysander.

Music entirely by Handel. The 2nd movement, “Nodi voi” can be found later in the Opus 1 sonatas and also in the concerti grossi as well as various operas and oratorios. The manuscript is not in Handel’s hand. Probably the earliest concerto in the Op. Probably between 10—11 October It appears in an important manuscript of 18th century solo sonatas in the Brussels Royal Conservatory, and is there attributed to ‘Sr Weisse’. Probably first performed fully choral without solo movements.
